The Budget Traveler’s Guide to Experiencing Devbhoomi Dwarka and Beyt Dwarka
Devbhoomi Dwarka is the city of Lord Krishna. The temple is situated on the banks of the Gomti River.
To reach Dwarka, you can take a train to its railway station named Dwarka (Station Code-DWK). It is also well connected by road. For an economical trip, you can take a train to Ahmedabad and then another train to Dwarka, which takes around 9 hours. Trains from Ahmedabad run daily to Dwarka.
Tips before visiting Dwarka :
1. Check the availability of train tickets and book accommodation promptly.
2. Consider booking Dharamshalas near the temple as they offer excellent facilities. Don’t underestimate the quality of Dharamshalas in Dwarka as they provide clean and excellent facilities to the pilgrims. I recommend booking the Swaminarayan Dharamshala स्वामीनारायण धरमशाला as it is close to the temple and offers ample parking space.
3. Check train tickets from Ahmedabad and book accommodation through Yatradham, which offers various options for pilgrimage destinations. Prices triple during peak season, so it’s best to avoid visiting Dwarka during that time if you’re on a tight budget. Check accommodation in Dwarka Dharamshalas/hotels through the link https://yatradham.org/yatradham-destinations/gujarat/dwarka.html
4. Plan a two-day stay in Dwarka and book tickets accordingly as two days are enough to explore Dwarka and Beyt Dwarka.
On the day you arrive in Dwarka, visit Dwarkadhish Temple after freshening up. Please note that mobile phones, food, and plastic bags are not allowed inside the temple. You can deposit them in the lockers available outside. Then, have lunch at Srinath Dining Hall, known for the best Kathiyawadi thali in Dwarka https://maps.app.goo.gl/jQZkW563xnf5muBz6. Finally, pick and negotiate with auto-rickshaws near Dwarka temple (it cost me 1200 Rs for all three places) as they will take you for a tour of Rukmini Devi Mandir, Nageshwar Jyotirlinga & Beyt Dwarka.
- The newly constructed bridge that connects Okha to Beyt Dwarka is now open for commuters. Autos will go up to a certain location, from where you have to take another auto that will take you directly to a place near the temple.
- After visiting Beyt Dwarka for darshan, the auto will take you back to Nageshwar Jyotirlinga. Visit the temple and finally, head to the Rukmini Devi Temple near Dwarka.
- Take a walk near Gomti Ghat at night.
